Day 1

Departure from Reykjavík and Arrival at Landmannalaugar – Geothermal Paradise


Your adventure begins in Reykjavík with an 08:00 departure from select bus stops and hotels, heading into the Icelandic Highlands with Landmannalaugar as the day’s destination. Enjoy a scenic drive aboard a 4×4 bus, stopping for memorable sightseeing along the way to capture Iceland’s dramatic volcanic terrain.


Upon arrival in Landmannalaugar, camp setup takes place before a three-hour warm-up hike through this geothermal paradise of colorful rhyolite mountains and rugged lava fields. There’s also time to unwind in natural hot springs, a classic Icelandic experience. After a day of exploration, the group camps overnight in Landmannalaugar, gathering for an evening meal in the communal canteen tent. Travelers will pitch their own tents and may assist in setting up the group tent for the expedition.


Distance: The first day’s hike covers about 2–3 hours in the Landmannalaugar area, providing a stunning introduction to Iceland’s raw beauty and setting the stage for the days ahead.

Day 2

Landmannalaugar to Lake Álftavatn – A Descent into Serenity


After breakfast, the journey continues through Iceland’s renowned Laugavegur trail, starting in the Laugahraun Lava Field and winding around the striking Brennisteinsalda mountain. Expect to see bubbling rivers, geothermal hot springs, and vibrant volcanic formations as you make your way toward Hrafntinnusker, perched at 1,100 m (3,608 ft) above sea level.
